The United States national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has set a lofty target of reaching the semifinals at the World Cup 2018.
The US has steadily shown improvement under the regime of the German. Part of the success has been bringing several players of German nationality – who are also eligible for the US citizenship – into the national team and this has increased the quality quite tremendously. In terms of its World Cup history, the US national team has been on the rise since it hosted its very first World Cup in 1990. Since then, they have qualified for every World Cup and the tradition is expected to continue for the World Cup 2018 as well
After having reached the round of 16 in the last two editions, the natural progression for the US national team would be to reach the quarter-finals. Klinsmann, though, has set an ambitious target of reaching the semifinals at this major tournament. It has been speculated for a long time that teams outside the traditional favourites list could go on and win the World Cup at some point in the future. Klinsmann managed to win the Confederations Cup at the first instance in 2013. He will be hoping to use this experience and guide the national team to achieving this lofty target in Russia.

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the favourites to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for this year.
However, there has been increased support for the German players like Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer to win the award after they managed to help their national team win the World Cup. Ronaldo, on the other hand, had a disappointing tournament with the Portuguese after being knocked out in the group stages. Even though he played a huge role in Real Madrid winning the cup double of Champions League and Copa del Rey, it is felt that the World Cup trophy is a significantly much better achievement.
Pepe has come to the support of Ronaldo by saying that the 29-year-old completely deserves the Ballon d’Or award after scoring more than 50 goals last campaign. This included 17 goals in the Champions League alone, which is a new record. Pepe has also recalled that Ronaldo has been in imperious form this campaign as well. After facing fitness issues at the start of the campaign, Ronaldo is significantly ahead of players like Neymar and Lionel Messi in the race for the la Liga Golden Boot award. His form has helped Madrid convert a six-point deficit into a two-point advantage in the space of a few months.
“If any other players wins, they should be ashamed given what Cristiano has been doing, beating lots of records, scoring 17 goals in the Champions League last season. These things are almost impossible. In three months he has scored 23 goals. What else does he need to do?He is the best player in history and I repeat: it would be a scandal and a shame if they do not give him the Ballon d’Or,” said Pepe. Ronaldo has won two FIFA Ballon d’Or award in his career.
